The body of knowledge about peacebuilding grows, but there is a persistent lack of clarity about what makes for effective peacebuilding. And while considerable knowledge exists about leadership, it fails to permeate the discipline of peacebuilding. This five-day leadership course provides an opportunity for current and potential leaders to enhance their understanding of sustainable peacebuilding and the leadership styles that can hope to achieve it. They will also learn how to apply this understanding to their own situations.
The course has been run by the GCSP on behalf of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland since 2009, in partnership with IPAT, an initiative of Interpeace.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The course targets current and potential leaders actively engaged in peacebuilding challenges, notably representatives of:
- national institutions, including government, ministries, commissions and the security sector
- civil society, including traditional and religious leaders, NGOs, INGOs, trade unions, media, business, professional associations and women’s groups
- international organisations, including UN, AU, OAS, ASEAN, EU and the League of Arab States
Participation is limited to 24, based on a competitive selection process, and is gender balanced. Full attendance is required.
The seminar is offered free of charge. All other expenses including lodging and travel are the responsibility of the participant. A limited number of partial scholarships may be available.
